About the Brand
Founded in 1976 by Tarlach de Blacam, the Inis Meáin Knitting Co posses one of the most interesting and romantic stories in the business. Tarlach, a graduate in Celtic languages from Trinity College, came to the Island and founded the company as part of an Ireland cooperative enterprise aimed at providing employment for residents on the Island and to help protect the local crafts and heritage. Inis Meáin finds its inspiration from ancient knitting techniques and designs produced to keep the Aran fisherman protected from the harsh weather and treacherous seas of the Atlantic Ocean. Using luxury yarns and an updated colour palate they produce truly unique knitwear pieces grounded in tradition but with a modern sensibility.
